Developing Energy Efficient and Smart Lighting Education.By admin Posted 8/5/2020 6:54:36 PM
Thu Dau Mot University is one of four universities in Vietnam to implement the project "Developing Energy Efficient and Smart Lighting Education" (DESL). This is one of the important community projects towards sustainable development in the field of lighting. DESL is co-funded by the European Union's Erasmus + program, coordinated by Aalto University (Finland).
According to the Vietnam Energy Outlook Report 2017, by 2035, the total energy demanded will increase nearly 2.5 times compared to 2015 and Vietnam from an energy exporter is becoming a energy importer. It is expected that the proportion of imported energy to the total primary energy supply will increase to 37.5% by 2025 and 58.5% by 2035, of which lighting will consume about 35% of the total national electricity. This change will affect the security of energy supply and Vietnam's dependence on imported fuels. Despite many improvements in energy efficiency in lighting as well as great potential to reduce energy demand, related costs and greenhouse gas emissions, Vietnam still faces many different barriers to develop energy efficiency for lighting such as: level of awareness and information about energy saving role; lack of qualified personnel and lighting expertise; inexperience in design, testing, quality control of products and lighting systems.
To overcome these barriers and strengthen the education and training of experts in energy efficiency, intelligent lighting technology, 3 universities in Europe (Aalto University - Finland, Eindhoven University of Technology - Finland, University of Ljubljana - Slovenia) and 4 universities in Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Thu Dau Mot University, Eastern International University, Vietnam - Germany University ) and 2 Myanmar universities (Mandalay University of Technology and Yangon University of Technology) jointly implement the project "Developing education on energy efficiency and intelligent lighting" (Developing Energy Efficient) and Smart Lighting Education - referred to as DESL).
Beginning in November 2019, the project will be implemented over 3 years with the goal of improving the pedagogical capacity, teaching infrastructure, and human resource development of members; Disseminate and promote knowledge about smart lighting and energy saving for industry not only in goverment but also in society. In order to achieve the set goals, the project will organize and develop courses about lighting at universities, train and improve the capacity of lecturers, establish and upgrade laboratory and facilities; cooperation and connection between partner universities, industry and public organizations in Vietnam and Myanmar. The expected results from the project will contribute to the construction and sustainable development of the community, through providing high quality human resources in the field of energy saving in general and lighting in particular.
For Thu Dau Mot University, the project will provide resources to build and operate lighting labs for relevant training disciplines; provide the latest program framework, training content on energy and smart lighting. It is expected that in 2021, Thu Dau Mot University will officially start to educate and train on electrical engineering, automation, information technology, and so on. The subjects under the project are Lighting Engineering, Lighting design and simulation, and a thematic about completing specific product.
Activities Thu Thu Mot University will implement in the project:
* Develop awareness of energy saving in the community: co-organize project activities such as scientific seminars, seminars to raise public awareness about energy saving in lighting.
* Human resource development: Send lecturers to attend training courses on methods of developing and organizing subject teaching in Finland and the Netherlands. Develop and update relevant subject content on lighting techniques.
* Development of facilities: Building a lighting lab
* Training students: Deploying teaching to students
* Maintain the effectiveness of the project: Maintain the organization of teaching, evaluating and improving after the project ends.
