Last week, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hiep-Rector led the School delegation to work with the École française d'Extrême-Orient (EFEO) to coordinate the implementation of the research works about the Southeast area and organized the training course on interdisciplinary research methods. To welcome the Delegation, there was Prof. Olivier Tessier-In charge of EFEO in Ho Chi Minh City.
Exchanged at the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hiep shared, besides the strategy of innovation, improved the quality of training, the School is focused on strong investment for scientific research activities towards building Thu Dau Mot University became the prestigious center of culture-education-science-technology inside and outside the country. Accordingly, the key programs, which were implemented from the year 2015, were 3 projects: Study of the Southeast area, Study of Smart Binh Duong City, Study of urban agriculture. With the research project on the Southeast area, the School hoped to receive the supports, advice of the Institute in the study articles of the project. At the same time, promoted the capacity of independent formation in researching and ability of promulgating the scientific results according to international standards, the School recommended to open training courses for interdisciplinary research methods in Thu Dau Mot University, which would be directly taught by the experts of the Institute.
With the history and research capacity, Prof. Olivier Tessier expressed the willingness to cooperate with the School in the coordination in the research projects of the Southeast areas. At the same time, with the team of professionals-experienced researchers, the Institute committed to support the School to organize training courses on interdisciplinary research methods to help the lecturers and students develop the ability of scientific research on the interdisciplinary direction next time.
In the framework of the meeting, Prof. Olivier introduced something about the coming summer course “Journey to Tam Dao” (JTD). This was the course organized by the French Development Agency in Vietnam AFD, Academy of Social sciences in Vietnam, École française d'Extrême-Orient (EFEO) , Francophone Agency… The course brought to the students a training program on analysis methods in the Social Sciences-Geography, Economics, Statistics, Sociology-Anthropology, History... which was taught by the French researcher and specialist. With the practical benefits of the course, Prof. Olivier expressed his invitations to the lecturers and students of the School to join the organization. In addition, Prof. Olivier and his assistant spent time sharing about the research programs of the Institute and offer
ed the staffs School to participate in coordinating research on project of exploitation and management Phuoc Hoa water resources on Dong Nai River valley.
According to the proposal of the Prof. Olivier, the two sides spent time discussing the details of the registration form to join the summer course, the research content of Phuoc Hoa irrigation project. Accordingly, the two sides expected to select the lecturers, researchers, and the post-graduate students and students, who had enough capacity to join the project; at the same time, we would expand the scope of research the Phuoc Hoa irrigation projects in water management problems on Saigon River, flowed through Binh Duong Province. As a prestigious training unit research in the area, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hiep believed that the School would do well its role in the contribution of organizing JTD summer courses. Therefore, in the next event of the course, Thu Dau Mot University desired to host the event.
At the end of the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hiep, thanked for the welcome of the Institute for the Delegation. He confirmed that the meeting with the orientations of cooperation, which were unified by the two sides, was the meaning first event between Thu Dau Mot University and EFEO in science research activities. The support of the Institute would increase research quality of the project, contributed to bring information, knowledge, built strong academic community, served for the teaching activities of the University; at the same time contributed to scientific solutions for sustainable development in the industrial sector-agriculture, rural-urban, sustainable development solutions in the industry, promoted the economic and society development of local regions and the country.
École française d'Extrême-Orient (EFEO), with the precursor was “The archaeological Delegation in Indochina”, founded on 15/12/1898, after that, was renamed École française d'Extrême-Orient by the Governor-general of Indochina Paul Doumer on 20/1/1900. Initially, the delegation expected to anchor in India, however, they selected Vietnam after considering and seeing that this place “was more promising in term of culture”.
EFEO is the oldest science agency of France, specialized in Asian studies, started from the hope that could fill the shortage of investment for the study of language, monuments, literature and history of the Far East by a group of orientalists, members of Literature academies and literary (AIBL).
EFEO had offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi (Viet Nam, Phnom Penh and Siem Reap (Cambodia), Seoul (South Korea), Pondicherry and Pune (India), Jakarta (Indonesia), Tokyo and Kyoto (Japan), Vientiane (Laos), Yangon and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Hong Kong and Beijing (China), Taipei (Taiwan), Bangkok and Chiang Mai (Thailand).
